Image
I discovered this: The Paula's Choice website says they do NOT include companies that sell to China but the list is full of unsafe brands that "test when required by law" or sell to China... I have e-mailed them... Amore Pacific: Korean beauty brand sold in China. Aveda: DHC: Nars:  credit to If I Don't See the Bunny, You Don't Get My Money Laura Mercier: credit to HumanelyChic

Response from Canmake Japan on Animal Testing...

Having read that they were cruelty free, and contacting JAVA (Japan) for confirmation, I learned that JAVA had confirmed that Canmake & Koji did not test but were unsure if they sold in China. I contacted both and received an immediate response form both. Koji said that they needed to ask headquarters and Kaori from Canmake answered my questions herself. Hello. I was wondering if you could answer a few questions for me. 1. Do you or any third parties test your products on animals?    (NO) 2. Do you or any third parties test the ingredients in your products on animals?   (We don't want, but we can't check)  Because the raw materials which we use are things with the results  that were already used as cosmetics, it is not necessary to test them newly.  That is why we do not do the animal test to raw materials.  However, we do not know that they did an animal test or not when they developed the raw materials. 3. Do you sell y

I wasn't expecting a jumbo eye pencil to be this good! Although it doesn't last a long time and it smudges a little... I would and WILL buy it again... I bought this on accident when I went to the store looking for this brand's lipgloss. I had bought the lipgloss on a whim because it was so cheap -$2.99- and loved it. I NEVER repeat buy. So I went back to try and find another one and much to my dismay, that color was gone. I needed a new black eyeliner and decided to try this one. I

South Korean & Japanese Beauty Brands...& China

I contacted a few of these brands in 2014 and have the results below... Yet even some of them that operate USA or international sites have not responded, which I find to be more rude and unprofessional as they are catering to Western customers by putting up the website, then declining to follow through. Some brands have it listed right on the site if you know where to look! 1. The top menu might have the flags of the countries they sell to 2. The top or bottom may have a locations link that tells you where their stores are located. 3.  There may be a link at the top that takes you to each international site. 4. At the bottom they might have contact info for each country. "Can you just tell me what companies DO sell in China? I don't feel like scrolling." Companies that sell in China (according to their websites) •  Clio / Peripera/ Goodal • Banila Co. • Elizavecca • Amore Pacific: Etude House/ Innisfree/ Laneige/IOPE etc. • Missha (they actually lie and

REVIEW: Innisfree (not cruelty free) Mineral Whipping Cream BB -3 STARS-

AmorePacific (parent company) announced they would no longer test on animals, but they refuse to pull out of China ($_$). Thus they cannot be considered cruelty-free. REVIEW Summary: Price: *** $22 Size: ** 40 ml Packaging: *** Pale yellow metal can with a spray nozzle Scent: *** No real scent. A faint scent that I cannot describe. Not nice but not bad. Color/Shade: N/A Only one available Texture: * thick, foamy Ease of use: **  Easy to press the nozzle and get it out, but it gives you away more than you need for your face and you will waste more than you will use. Very thick, but blends into skin with under 4 all over rubs. Effect: ** It feels thick going on but once it sits on your skin for a few minutes, the heavy feeling goes away. It also blends in about 4 rubs with too much and 2 rubs with the right amount, but it gets stuck in any crevices, etc. and they look darker than the rest of your skin. The shade itself on my skin also has a slight or

Body Shop "Vitamin E Cool BB Cream" 2 Star Failure -Like a Heavy Mud Mask

Body Shop Vitamin E Cool BB Cream Brand: Body Shop Line: N/A Make-up Type: "BB cream" Origin: USA Tested on Animals : NO, but their parent company does test. REVIEW Summary: Price: **   $22 (over-priced) Size: **  1.69 fl oz. (small, the size of the palm of my hand) Packaging: ***  Standard BB cream tube, pink with magenta and silver print Scent: **  It has a "make-up" smell, the smell of face cream that I associated with older woman and make-up as a child. Color/ Shade:  N/A Only one available: "Glowing Shade" :   Texture: *  greasy, thick E ase of use: **  Medium. Easy to squeeze out the drop, but hard to blend into your skin. Effect : * Bad. REVIEW: Fresh (SOLD IN CHINA / TESTED ON ANIMALS) "Sugar SPF Lip Treatment in Plum" 2.5 STARS

Image
Brand: Fresh Line: Sugar Make-up Type: Lip Tint / "Treatment" Origin: USA Tested on Animals: YES!! Sold in China  (parent company is LVMH) I obtained this product prior to seeing that and after Fresh falsely stated they are not tested.. REVIEW Summary: Price: $22 !! Packaging: It's a small twist up tube with a metallic shine Scent: faint, clean, non-offensive Color: Berry - a purplish pink Texture: Waxy E ase of use: Easy. Twist up and apply or use lip-brush to apply Effect : Not great. A "tint" that makes your lips feel slightly waxy and gives you a pretty color that fades away almost instantly. It's the type of waxy feel where you take a drink of water and the water beads on your lips. If that counts as "protecting"...but it in no way plumps, hydrates, or nourishes. Claim: SPF + hydrating + color (Unsure how to prove the first claim, fail on the hydration, fail on the color even though it oddly never technically

STILA now tests on animals...and PETA couldn't care less.

Further proving that one cannot even trust two-faced PETA's list, cosmetics company Stila admits to testing on animals on their website and on "Twitter", yet remains on their cruelty-free list. Does anyone remember when Too-Faced and Urban Decay decided to sell in China and thus test on animals and PETA attacked them and UD reversed their decision? It was in all of that that Hard Candy was also accused of this and they became angry and went to their FB page to clear it all up? And then UD got an award from PETA for deciding NOT to do something terrible? I know we can't expect much from an organization that has a spokeswoman (Ellen) who is the face of a cosmetics company that is notorious for testing on animals, but if they are going to put out a list and attack companies that start testing, they should at least be accurate. I sent them a polite e-mail saying there was an error in their list with the correct info and a link... and got the auto-reply that they promise

Korean Cosmetic Giant AmorePacific claims to end animal testing, but will not exit China where testing is required...

Korean cosmetic giant AmorePacific has been responding to questions about animal testing for years with statements that they would like to end animal testing and find alternatives in the future. Finally in the early spring of 2013, they announced that they were going cruelty free.  { NOTE: Japan cosmetics giant Shiseido did the same exact thing but received much more press and attention from the mainstream. However, they failed to mention that they would continue to sell in China where testing is mandatory by law (as of January 2014- an  amendment comes June 2014)} This news was backed up as truth by KARA and BUAV buav.org article , (KARA is Korea's animal rights group that is strongly NO KILL ( not to be confused with PETA who lobbies against cruelty to animals but murders thousands of animals every year and lobbies for shelters around the world to do the same, along with advocating banning pit bulls, euthanizing pregnant pit bulls, and euthanizing all feral cats.
